Abstract
- The evolutionary origin and population structure of 189 accessions belonging to five Croatian common bean landraces was assessed by phaseolin genotyping and microsatellite marker analysis. All the accessions belonging to landraces ‘Tetovac’ and ‘Kukuruzar’ were of phaseolin type I (Mesoamerican ; “S”), those belonging to ‘Visoki Trešnjevac’ were of type II (Andean ; “H” or “C”), while the accessions of ‘Niski Trešnjevac’ and ‘Zelenčec’ were of type III (Andean ; “T”). Out of 189 accessions, 141 showed unique multi-locus genotype using 26 SSRs. Both distance- and modelbased clustering approaches revealed the presence of three clusters in congruence with the results of phaseolin genotyping.
