Abstract

Beside appropriate heat treatment parameters, conditions of heat treatment and appropriate process conduction have important influence on materials properties. In this paper the influence of austenitizing time and protective atmosphere on properties of 42CrMo4 steels are investigated. Heat treatment was conducted in chamber furnace without protective atmosphere and with argon protection. After austenitizing on 850°C in time of 5 and 25 minutes the specimens were quenched into room temperature oil. After the heat treatment, appearance and hardness of the specimens are analyzed.
