Abstract

Dry grasslands represent important habitats of many plant species, many of which are rare and endangered. However, these valuable habitats and their unique biodiversity are increasingly threatened due to a variety of anthropogenic activities. The investigation of vascular flora was carried out at the local cemetery in Bilje (45˚36'N ; 18˚45'E), at the grassland area situated in the vicinity of the protected steppe-like grassland from the alliance Festucion vallesiacae. The floristic survey was performed from April to September of 2019. A total of 105 vascular plant taxa from 38 families were recorded. The highest number of taxa belonged to the families Fabaceae (13 taxa), Asteraceae (11 taxa) and Brassicaceae (7 taxa). Life form spectrum analysis showed the high number of hemicryptophytes (66 taxa), therophytes (32 taxa) and geophytes (17 taxa). Among the identified taxa, Doronicum hungaricum (Sadl.) Rchb. f. and Prunus tenella Batsch are critically endangered species and are listed in the Red book of vascular flora of Croatia. The presence of a large number of plant species, among which some are protected by the Croatian law, indicates the significance of conservation of this remarkable area.
