Abstract
- Scale model experiments have been conducted to study the diffraction of sound by a curved surface of finite impedance. The theory of matched asymptotic expansions (MAE) offers an alternative to Berry and Daigle’s generalized creeping wave series. [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 83, 2047–2058 (1988)] Experimental results are in excellent agreement (less than 1 dB) with predictions from the MAE theory both in the deep shadow zone and in the penumbra along the line of sight.
