Abstract

A high-precision isoperibol calorimeter has been used to measure the standard specific energy of combustion in fluorine of a carefully characterized specimen of silicon sesquitelluride, and the standard molar enthalpy of formation at T= 298.15 K; ΔfHom(Si2Te3, cr) = -(71±6) kJ·mol-1, has been derived. This result is compared with those calculated from high-temperature studies: the agreement with Brebrick (J. Chem. Phys.1968,49, 2584) is very good, but with Exsteen et al. (J. Phys. Chem.1967,71, 4130) is only fair.
