- •Chemical composition of the unconventional edible specie Opuntia monacantha.•The fruits are rich in fiber, selenium, copper, and manganese.•Chemical profile of pulp and peel were established by HPLC-DAD-MS/MS and GC-MS.•Phenolic compounds were identified in the extract as rutin and quercetin derivatives.•Antibacterial apolar extract constituted of fatty acids and phytosterols
