Abstract
- •This is the first report of Staphylococcus equorumcarrying two distinct cfr-bearing plasmids, both structurally different from previously identified cfr-containing plasmids.•Besides the cfrgene, these plasmids also genes for arsenic, copper and cadmium resistance, along with the lincosamide-pleuromutilin-streptogramin a resistance gene lsa(B). The co-occurrence of both antimicrobial and heavy metal resistance genes increases the potential for co-selection of these plasmids.•This study emphasizes the critical need for ongoing surveillance to prevent the spread of multi-drug resistance from food-producing animals, underlining its importance for food safety and public health.
