Abstract

A new species of diatom, Amphorotia robustasp. nov., is described from subaquatic sediments in the Lingding estuary and Pearl River delta, China. It is distinctive in having strongly curved valves, and regularly even-spaced stria arrangement on both ventral and dorsal sides of the valve. This study builds upon previous diatom research conducted in the Pearl River delta and contributes to our understanding of the taxonomy of the genus Amphorotiain southeastern China. Consequently, it highlights this region as one of the most ecologically diverse habitats for the genus Amphorotiain the Southeast Asian region.
