Abstract

About 6 per cent of the patients with infectious diseases of the spine admitted to the Spinal Unit of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital have been previously submitted to laminectomy. The purpose of this paper is to re-emphasize the futility of this operation for paraplegia due to spinal infection. Exceptions to this principle are described and methods of management are also considered.
