Updated nomenclature and re-establishment of the genus DombeyaCav. section Dombeya(Dombeyoideae, Malvaceae)

ABSTRACTHere, we provide a list of all the legitimate names and synonyms of the species and infraspecific taxa in Dombeyasect. Dombeya. This autonymic section includes 11 species, 2 subspecies and 6 varieties showing a unique trait within Dombeyoideae: a biparous cyme with scorpioid terminal units. These species were previously included in two sections: Dombeyasect. CapricornuaArènes and D. sect. ParacapricornuaArènes, though neither of these names followed nomenclatural rules. Four lectotypes (Dombeya cincinnataK. Schum, Dombeya leucorrhoeaK. Schum. Dombeya metameropsisHochr. var. kitombaensisHochr. Dombeya urenoidesHochr.), and three second-step lectotypes (Dombeya borraginopsisHochr. Dombeya rubifoliaBaill. Dombeya greveanaHochr.) are designated here. This work constitutes the basis for a future integrative revision of section Dombeya.
