Evaluating Operative Exposure for Medical Students in the Era of Virtual Learning: A Single-Institution Experience

•Surgery clerkship students have variable operative exposure to General Surgery cases.•About 40% of students are not experiencing most core General Surgery cases in the OR, which was exacerbated during the onset of COVID-19 pandemic.•Clerkship structure and design is widely variable among institutions and there is no formal consensus over which surgical cases students should experience in the operating room.
