AI-based classification of three common malignant tumors in neuro-oncology: A multi-institutional comparison of machine learning and deep learning methods

•We compared ML and DL pipelines for a three-class tumor classification.•Both ML and DL pipelines showed similar robust performance.•Features were derived from both the tumor and surrounding tissues for top models.•T1-CE sequence may be the most useful sequence overall.
