Model predictive control for thermal comfort and energy optimization of an air handling unit system in airport terminals using occupant feedback

•A dynamic occupant-based model predictive control is proposed for an air handling unit system.•The proposed strategy is investigated in an air handling unit in the terminal.•The proposed strategy can effectively solve the time lag of the system.•The 10% energy-savings is achieved while the thermal comfort is maintained.
