Abstract

Long-chain n-alkylisoquinolinium compounds are very good inhibitors of the corrosion of steel by sulphuric, hydrochloric and hydrobromic acids, giving up to 99% protection in the best cases. It is suggested that their adsorption is aided by interaction between the π-electrons of the heterocyclic ring system and the metal surface.
