Abstract

For digital rectal examination (DRE), the positive predictive value and cancer detection rate do not surpass those for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing alone, and combining DRE with PSA does not offer additional benefits. On the basis of our findings, omission of DRE from prostate cancer screening strategies might be justifiable.
