Abstract

•Superficial siderosis (iSS) is a rare, chronic neurodegenerative condition characterised by the deposition of haemosiderin on the subpial tissues of the central nervous system.•iSS may be associated with intracranial hyper- and hypotension resulting in a range of neurological and ophthalmic manifestations.•Ophthalmic signs of superficial siderosis include abducens nerve palsy, optic neuropathy or optic nerve oedema and retinal haemorrhages, possibly leading to permanent vision loss.•Clinicians managing patients with superficial siderosis should consider ophthalmic involvement for optic nerve and retinal assessment.
