Abstract

•Fumonisin levels in Kenyan maize were significantly reduced after spectral sorting calibrated to high-risk kernels from Ghana.•Spectral sorting reduced toxigenic Fusariumpopulations in maize kernels.•Sorting based on visibly high-risk kernels represents a potentially generalizable approach to physical remediation of fumonisin.
