Abstract

•Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (EDX) were used to determine the mineralogy and the various chemical components in the kidney stones.•SEM with EDAX (SEM-EDAX) were accepted as reference methods.•The morphology of the surface crystals was evaluated using SEM with appropriate magnification.•X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to recognize the mineral components of the kidney stones examined.•The results showed mixtures of crystalline components presenting phases of mono and dihydrate calcium oxalates (COM and COD), uricite (UR) and hydroxyapatite (HAP) within the matrix of each of the samples.•Stone analyzes should be done correctly in order to prevent recurrence.
