Abstract

•In this study, 24 mcr-1-positive avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) were detected from 493 APEC isolated from waterfowl in some coastal areas of China.•Fourteen isolates of mcr-1-positive APEC plasmids were successfully conjugated to EC600.•Both sequence types ST156 and ST10 were found in high proportions in human and avian sources through genome-wide analysis.•It is worth noting that two isolates of APEC were detected to contain blaNDM-1 and blaNDM-4 genes, respectively.
