Transformation and risk assessment of the East Kolkata Wetlands (India) using fuzzy MCDM method and geospatial technology

•The East Kolkata Wetlands (EKW) is a Ramsar Site.•EKW includes agricultural lands, sewage-fed fisheries, horticulture and built-up areas.•Encroachment for agriculture and urban expansion has threatened the EKW.•Transformation of the EKW is assessed by the GIS, MCDM, and fuzzy AHP methods.•Western and north-western parts of the EKW are more vulnerable and risk-prone.
