Furofuran lignans from Valeriana jatamansiwith their antioxidant and anticancer properties

Valeriana jatamansiis hired as multiple remedies for treatment of insomnia and circulatory disorders, asthma, dry cough, jaundice, and skin diseases. A phytochemical investigation from the whole plant of V. jatamansi resulted in isolation and identification of five furofuran lignans including 8‐hydroxypinoresinol‐4‐O‐β‐D‐glucoside (1), 8‐hydroxypinoresinol‐4'‐O‐β‐D‐glucoside (2), prinsepiol‐4‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranoside (3), (+)‐pinoresinol‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranoside (4), and (+)‐syringaresinol (5) for the first time. Their structures were elucidated by analysis and comparison of their spectroscopic data with those reported in the literature. Furthermore, the biological properties of these isolates were evaluated in vitro for anti‐oxidant and anticancer activities.
