Abstract

•His526Asp and Ser531Leu in RpoB were associated with high-level rifampicin resistance.•Asp516Tyr, His526Asn and Asp516Val in RpoB were associated with low-level rifampicin resistance.•Asp516Tyr is a novel substitution associated with rifampicin resistance in Rhodococcus equi.•Disk diffusion missed two strains with a low-level rifampicin-resistant substitution.
