•Recipients of UM171-expanded cord blood show robust T cell reconstitution.•Recipients of UM171 grafts show high T cell receptor repertoire diversity post-transplant.•UM171 expansion increases the frequency and potency of common lymphoid progenitors.•UM171 grafts are associated with low rate of severe infections post-transplant.
