Fabrication of Large Aspect Ratio PCD Micro-milling Tool with Pulsed Lasers and Grinding

Abstract
- A compound processing method of pulsed nanosecond laser, picosecond laser and precision grinding is proposed to fabricate large aspect ratio PCD micro-milling tools. The influence of picosecond laser parameters on the cutting edge is discussed. The optimal PCD tool with diameter of 0.5 mm, length-diameter ratio of 3 and a blunt radius of 3.5 μm is obtained. The cutting performance of the fabricated tool is investigated in the micro milling of oxygen-free copper.
