Abstract

Diagnosing cytomegalovirus pneumonia is difficult. Cytomegalovirus viral load in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid at a cut off of 4500 IU/ml has a sensitivity of 91% and specificity of 77% to diagnose viral pneumonia and is more reliable than plasma using a cut off value of 270 IU/mL.
