Abstract
- This research examined the effect of regular home- and hospital-based cardiac rehabilitation exercise on state and trait hopelessness levels in 324 patients with coronary heart disease. For individuals with moderate to severe baseline hopelessness, home exercise was significantly associated with decreased state hopelessness, even after adjusting for other key variables. Baseline hopelessness was a predictor of attrition in this cohort, especially for home exercisers, but this effect was mediated in hospital-based exercise programs.
