Abstract
- Management of high-risk lesions of the breast can be challenging because of confusing terminology and changes in management options. Likewise, the imaging identification of high-risk lesions of the breast may be challenging because of overlap with benign and malignant appearances. Despite the recurrent controversies in the management of high-risk lesions of the breast, it is imperative to understand the proper classification and management options of such lesions. This knowledge will help the radiologist communicate confidently with both the referring physician and the patient. The imaging appearances by mammogram, ultrasound, and dynamic contrast-enhanced breast MRI are illustrated for various high-risk lesions of the breast. A management algorithm is provided as a reference for the clinical recommendations at the time of diagnosis of high-risk lesions of the breast.
