Abstract

Ventricular tachycardia is the most common cause of wide complex tachycardia, although the differential diagnosis also includes supraventricular tachycardia with aberration and pre-excited tachycardias. This article discusses the various types and settings in which ventricular tachycardia occurs, along with criteria for the clinical and electrocardiographic differentiation of wide complex tachycardias. Acute and chronic treatments are discussed, concentrating on the recent advances in pharmacologic treatment of ventricular tachycardia.
