Geometrical Optics in Stationary Space-Times

Abstract

The equations of geometrical optics in a stationary space-time are obtained making use of a decomposition of the metric such that the Maxwell equations take a form similar to the one they usually have in flat space-time. It is shown that if the space-time is not static, the light rays are not orthogonal to the geometrical wavefronts in this decomposition.
