Abstract

Developments in electronics have given rise to continuous advances in the methods of recording biological signals. Apparatus has improved greatly in standards of reliability, sensitivity and safety in recent years and this has resulted in considerable expansion of electrodiagnostic techniques in hospitals and eye clinics. The results of these tests are having an increasing influence on the day to day decisions of the ophthalmologist, particularly in cases where information cannot be obtained by the more traditional approaches such as ophthalmoscopy and perimetry. In this paper a brief review is given of the various techniques which are currently in use in hospitals and examples of results obtained in the laboratories at the University of Aston are given by way of illustrations.
