Abstract

Information about geological hazards in the Bavarian Alps (e.g. rockfalls, landslides) is available in the internet or intranet section "Georisk" of the "Bodeninformationssystem Bayern" (BIS-BY; www.bis.bayern.de). A number of departments like district administrations, water and traffic management offices, forest management as well as private users already use this information system. By now the BIS-BY only shows the sites of origin of geological hazards and not the whole endangered area which would be relevant for land use planning. This area, the so-called process area, can only be defined by empirical or numerical simulations and models.A danger map gives an overview about the situation. It is based on model calculations and empirical analyses and can be verified by the Georisk cadastre (BIS-BY). Concerning the spatial extent of the process areas, possible inaccuracies may impair an exact expression of the danger. The danger map shows for large areas where to assume a special type of danger. So it will be easier to deduce possible conflicts between danger and land use. Danger maps can be included in the land development plan or can be used to assign priorities while taking measures.
