Abstract
- Accuracy and reliability requirements of modern precision devices are, in part, limited by the dimensional instability of the materials from which these devices are constructed. To a large extent, these dimensional instabilities are related to the relaxation of residual stresses introduced during processing. Data are presented which emphasize this relationship, as well as the interrelationships which exist among design, material selection, and processing.
