Abstract

THE MANHATTAN Dermatological Society is in many ways a unique organization. It is the second oldest dermatological society in New York, giving priority to the New York Dermatological Society which, founded in 1869, is the oldest in the world. There was never any real rivalry between the two Societies, and they were conducted on much the same plane. As a matter of fact, of the 55 active members elected to the Manhattan Dermatological Society within this 50 year period, 14 have also been members of the New York Dermatological Society. What the Manhattan Dermatological Society has meant to its members during the 50 years of its existence is evidenced by the fact that there have been only eight resignations during that time.For many years the Manhattan Dermatological Society was probably the most difficult medical society in the world to enter.
