Abstract
- THEORETICALLY, a particle moving without friction on the surface of a rotating planet should describe a circular path in the course of twelve ‘pendulum hours’, that is, with a period given by where ω is the angular velocity of the rotation and φ is the latitude. It is generally assumed, that these movements are insignificant compared to the currents actually existing in the ocean.
