Abstract

Single-crystal synchrotron X-ray diffraction analysis of the [NEt&lt;SUB&gt;4&lt;/SUB&gt;]&lt;superscript&gt;+&lt;/superscript&gt; salt of the [2-Ph-closo-2-CB&lt;SUB&gt;6&lt;/SUB&gt;H&lt;SUB&gt;6&lt;/SUB&gt;]&lt;superscript&gt;−&lt;/superscript&gt; anion, obtained from [4-Ph-arachno-4-CB&lt;SUB&gt;8&lt;/SUB&gt;H&lt;SUB&gt;13&lt;/SUB&gt;] and NEt&lt;SUB&gt;3&lt;/SUB&gt; in refluxing toluene, substantiates the anion as the first structurally characterised seven-vertex monocarbaborane.
