Abstract

The average polarization P<subscript>av</subscript> of the recoil nucleus<superscript>12</superscript>B (ground state) produced by the polarized-muon capture reaction<superscript>12</superscript>C(μ<superscript>−</superscript>,v<subscript>μ</subscript>)<superscript>12</superscript>B was measured by a new approach which involved the muon spin resonance, and the adoption of Grafoil as a carbon target where the polarization of<superscript>12</superscript> B can be preserved completely under 3 kG holding field. Our observed resultP<subscript>av</subscript>=0.473±0.053 yields g<subscript>p</subscript>/g<subscript>A</subscript>=9.6<subscript>−2.7</subscript><superscript>2.4</superscript> which seems to be consistent with the canonical PCAC prediction within the error.
