Abstract

Summary The aim of the operative treatment of Morbus Crohn is to remove complications and to introduce a better course of the disease. A complete recovery by operation is impossible. The aspiration is to resect into the macroscopically non-inflamed tissue. The extent of the safety margin to the intact tissue is controversial. Bypass anastomoses should not be performed any more (except in cases of duodenal Morbus Crohn). Perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis and a good preoperative preparation of the patients is mandatory.
