Abstract

Summary Defect wounds over 92 joints on 54 patients were resurfaced with mesh skin grafts. Thirsch grafts often produce dermatogenic contractures due to shrinkage of the graft, but this does not occur with mesh grafts as the elastic parts of the split graft are cut with a mesh dermatome. The advantage of good wound drainage results in an excellent quota of graft takes, even on poor recipient areas or infected or fresh wounds. In none of the cases properly operated on was dermatogenic contracture seen. In functional, esthetic and mechanical respects results were always good.
