Abstract

Abstract: Uranium metal samples of large surface to volume ratios were irradiated in the presence of 1 cm<superscript>3</superscript> of air. It was found that 1.708±0.015% of<superscript>133</superscript>Xe was released during irradiation. It was proved that this amount of<superscript>133</superscript>Xe is due to the decay of<superscript>133</superscript>I originally released. The release of<superscript>133</superscript>Xe was attributed to the knock-out mechanism.
