Abstract

Several enzyme polymorphisms and hemoglobin variants were typed in a sample of n=219 non-related Greek blood-donors. The following gene frequencies were observed: p<superscript>a</superscript>=0.201, p<superscript>b</superscript>=0.701, p<superscript>c</superscript>=0.098; PGD<superscript>A</superscript>=0.985, PGD<superscript>c</superscript>=0.015; AK<superscript>1</superscript>=0.942, AK<superscript>2</superscript>=0.058; Hb<superscript>A</superscript>=0.988, Hb<superscript>S</superscript>=0.012. No polymorphic variation was seen in LDH, s-MDH, PHI, or SOD. The population genetical aspects of these results are discussed.
