Abstract

Six saponins, cyclaminorin (<BO>1</BO>), deglucocyclamin (<BO>2</BO>), cyclacoumin (<BO>3</BO>), cyclamin (<BO>4</BO>), isocyclamin (<BO>5</BO>), and mirabilin (<BO>6</BO>) were isolated from the tubers of Cyclamen mirabile. Compound <BO>6</BO> is a new natural compound, and its structure was established as 3-{O-β-[[β-<SCP>d</SCP>-xylopyranosyl-(1→2)]-[β-<SCP>d</SCP>-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)]-β-<SCP>d</SCP>-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)]-[β-<SCP>d</SCP>-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)]-α-<SCP>l</SCP>-arabinopyranosyl}-3β,16α,28-trihydroxyolean-12-en-30-oic acid (<BO>6</BO>). The structure elucidation of this compound was accomplished using both spectral and chemical methods. Antimicrobial and uterocontractile activities of the saponins were also investigated.
