Abstract

Abstract: A facile preparative procedure was developed for the synthesis of 17-and 18-electron closo-(diphosphine)ruthenacarborane complexes. This method is based on the replacement of PPh<subscript>3</subscript> ligands with bis(diphenylphosphino)alkanes Ph<subscript>2</subscript>P(CH<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>n</subscript>PPh<subscript>2</subscript> (n = 2—4) in ruthenacarborane 3,3-(PPh<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>-3-Cl-3-H-closo-3,1,2-RuC<subscript>2</subscript>B<subscript>9</subscript>H<subscript>11</subscript>. The resulting complexes exhibit high activity in controlled radical polymerization of vinyl monomers.
