Abstract

This article discusses the religious lives and careers of 17th century Spanish Jesuits Juan Eusebio Nieremberg and Alonso de Andrade. The author comments on their roles in establishing the relationship between politics and religion in Spain from 1643-1667 under the rule of King Phillip IV. He also considers their hagiographic studies of Christian saints conducted and promoted by Nieremberg and Andrade.
