Abstract

The article discusses the effects of daily use of adult day service (ADS) programs by caregivers of individuals with dementia on the salivary biomarker of stress reactivity dehydroepiandrosterone-sulfate (DHEA-S), focusing on whether the effects on DHEA-S are associated with daily variability in positive mood and depressive symptoms. Daily and chronic caregiving stressors are mentioned in relation to poor health outcomes, increased mortality, and emotional distress.
