Abstract

The article discusses the American dream in relation to the diminished and deferred rights of U.S. citizen children in the immigration context, focusing on a debate over how the U.S. Board of Immigration Appeals should respect the rights of the American citizen children of undocumented immigrants in deportation proceedings. An "extreme hardship standard" is mentioned, along with the U.S. Supreme Court case Mathews v. Eldridge which deals with due process rights under the nation's Constitution.
