Abstract
- The article discusses gender, discursive emphasis on the importance of cultural authenticity, and education of overseas Chinese women in diaspora, and explores the interaction of national and imperial priorities that produced certain expectations of women, particularly in Malaya and Singapore. Topics discussed include response of overseas Chinese women to feminine national belonging ideas, female education, and growth in Chinese nationalism through Chinese-medium education.
