Abstract
- The development of interdisciplinary interventions to improve resilience in older persons should be a priority. The small body of empirical studies demonstrates the effectiveness of these interventions, but the evidence is not adequate to recommend consensus and evidence-based approaches to practice. The 4 objectives of this article, based on major studies since 2000, are as follows: (1) to describe the origin of interdisciplinary interventions for resiliency in the development of geriatric assessment and treatment units; (2) to review programs targeting mental health to improve resilience in community and primary care populations; (3) to examine programs targeting physical health problems and functional impairments; and (4) to recommend research priorities for future research and clinical programs.
