Abstract
- The article discusses the liberal social and economic views of the Cortes de Cádiz, which was a constituent assembly that took place in Spain from 1810 to 1814 as part of the claim of sovereignty in the context of the Napoleonic Wars. Particular focus is given to the influence of French Enlightenment in the ideas of the assembly. Topics discussed include the role of agriculture in Spanish economy, the agrarian reform, and the defense of industrialism and industrialization. Special attention is given to the work of Spanish jurist and author Melchor G. de Jovellanos, particularly the idea of public happiness.
