Abstract

The article presents a study which investigates the effectiveness and associated complications in using recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) augmentation in high-risk foot and ankle fusions and fracture nonunion. The researchers have described the paucity of data in evaluating the potential benefits of foot and ankle surgery. It indicates that the rhBMP-2 is a safe and effective adjunct to bony union in high-risk foot and ankle surgeries.
