Abstract

This article discusses the controversy surrounding Bishop Nicolás Videla del Pino of Salta, Argentina, with a particular focus on the accusations of his committing treason against the state. The author comments on the separation of truth from fiction regarding the bishop's actions from 1812 to 1819, which reveals his patriotism and political support of the independence of Argentina. The controversial relationship between Videla del Pino and Pope Pius VII regarding the former's bishopric is also explored.
